Jones & Bartlett Learning Receives American Journal of Nursing (AJN) Awards for Nursing, Public Health, and Health Informatics
Jones & Bartlett Learning recently received prestigious awards for titles across a range of categories by a leading voice in nursing.
The American Journal of Nursing (AJN) announced via its “Book of the Year Awards 2022” that JBL would be the recipient of honors for eight products from its nursing and public health portfolios. Of the eight titles, one received first-place honors, four received second-place honors and three received third-place honors.
The following books were recognized by AJN, per category:
Palliative Care
- Palliative Care Nursing: Caring for Suffering Patients, Second Edition by Kathleen Ouimet Perrin, Caryn A. Sheehan, Mertie L. Potter, and Mary K. Kazanowski received first-place honors
Of this text, AJN said: This text is a great resource for nurses, nursing students, and nurse educators. It thoroughly discusses suffering, advance directives, hospice, grief, and special populations, and includes case studies and reflection questions. It is a very handy book to have on hand and a useful tool to teach the topic of palliative care.

- Introduction to Health Behavior Theory, Fourth Edition by Joanna Hayden received second-place honors.
Informatics
- Population Health Analytics by Martha L. Sylvia and Ines Maria Vigil received second place honors.
- Digital Health Care: Perspectives, Applications and Cases by Phillip Olla and Joseph Tan received third-place honors.
Maternal-Child Health/Prenatal Nursing/Childbirth
- Breastfeeding Management for the Clinician: Using the Evidence, Fifth Edition by Marsha Walker received second-place honors.
Nursing Management and Leadership
- Financial Management for Nurse Managers: Merging the Heart with the Dollar, Fifth Edition by J. Michael Leger received third-place honors.
Nursing Research
- Evidence-Based Practice for Nurses: Appraisal and Application of Research, Fifth Edition by Nola A. Schmidt and Janet M. Brown received third-place honors.
History and Public Policy
- A History of Public Health: From Past to Present by Jan Kirk Carney received second-place honors.
Each year the AJN conducts a peer-reviewed process of newly published textbooks and digital resources across nursing and healthcare selecting three best-in-class products per category. Since 1969, this annual awards competition has been highly regarded by professionals, faculty and librarians in both healthcare and academia.
