Mari Jayne M. Frederick, Professor of Networking & Cybersecurity Technologies at Florida Gateway College (FGC), was brought in to help overhaul FGC's Computer Science degree programs. In this interview, she talks about how she was able to do this with the assistance of Jones & Bartlett Learning textbooks and cybersecurity Cloud Labs.

Can you tell us about your background and your school?
Florida Gateway College (FGC) is a comprehensive, public community college serving more than 5,000 students annually from five North Central Florida counties: Baker, Columbia, Dixie, Gilchrist, and Union. We offer a number of outstanding programs in the liberal arts and sciences fields. I joined FGC in 2022 to work on the much-needed overhauling of FGC’s Computer Science degree programs. I’m currently employed as a Professor in the Networking & Cybersecurity Technologies degree programs.
What’s most important to you when adopting a new textbook or lab for a class that you’re teaching?
Jones & Bartlett Learning (JB Learning) is a well-recognized and respected publisher in the field of cybersecurity. Integrating JB Learning material into our curriculum enhances FGC’s reputation, making it more attractive to students and employers alike. Their cybersecurity materials involve high-quality educational content that are comprehensive and up-to-date. This is crucial in the fast-evolving field of cybersecurity, where new threats and technologies emerge regularly.
JB Learning also provides superior instructor support and resources, including test banks, solutions manuals, and teaching guides. These can be valuable tools for instructors to enhance their teaching and for students to assess their understanding. Response time is very important when developing or updating curriculum, and I have never been let down yet. Also, JB Learning providing instructors access to materials to evaluate first before deciding to adopt their materials is awesome!
