Today’s healthcare supervisors are continually faced with smaller budgets, fewer workers, and greater responsibilities. The sixth edition of Umiker’s Management Skills for the New Health Care Supervisor continues to provide valuable information for future healthcare managers and supervisors who must address these challenges daily.

Written primarily for those who have little to no management training, Umiker’s offers practical suggestions for improving effectiveness, both as a supervisor and as an organization. Ideal for students in undergraduate, community, and career college programs, author Charles R. McConnell maintains Dr. William Umiker’s clear, jargon-free writing style.

Key New Features:

  • New “Key Terms” section added to each chapter.
  • New and expanded information on current topics such as interviewing and employee selection, credentialing, cultural diversity, disciplinary action, HIPAA, managed care, grant writing, and more.
  • Improved case studies, exercises, and end-of-chapter questions.
  • Comprehensive and updated instructor resources, including an Instructor’s Manual, PowerPoint lecture outlines, and Test Bank.

  • "[This book] provides practical methods for use in real management scenarios dealing with people and the impact of constant changes in the workplace on supervisors. This is a much-needed book for students proactively seeking needed skills and for experienced supervisors who wish to hone their skills and strategies for success in meeting career goals. … In today's changing healthcare environment, books such as this reinforce the skills necessary for successful supervision in the workplace and this one is more comprehensive than most in this field. Other books in this area target specific topics rather than presenting a comprehensive review."
