Equipment For Respiratory Care is changing the paradigm of historic respiratory care equipment books. Focusing on the principles of the equipment and then concluding with in-depth discussion and practical solutions to complex problems, this focus on the clinical application of patient care enhances key critical thinking skills with clear explanations of the features of the equipment as well as the way it functions.

  • New Approach - Emphasis on clinical application rather than engineering technical detail to drive critical thinking
  • Provides students with the tools to approach equipment troubleshooting rather than have to rely on textbook algorithms
  • Case Studies present scenarios and assessment items so students can apply their knowledge to real-life situations
  • Provides an easy to use, logical approach to tackling clinical or patient and technical problems
  • Helps students select the most appropriate equipment, determined by patient, need among similar technologies
  • Includes illustrations from the user’s point of view focus on how the operator needs to interact with the equipment
  • Follows AARC Clinical Practice Guidelines
  • Includes Navigate 2 Advantage Access - Each new print copy includes Navigate 2 Advantage Access that unlocks a complete eBook, Robust Audio Lectures, Study Center, homework and Assessment Center, and a dashboard that reports actionable data.

Instructors Praise This Approach

“I like the approach of this book.  By focusing on principles of patient care, the authors have made the equipment being discussed more relevant to the student as they proceed through clinical education.  I believe this approach will foster the critical thinking skills that are so vital for the successful respiratory therapist to possess.”

“Due to the ever changing look of equipment this is a great approach. If you know the principle behind the equipment you can work any of them.”

“The authors have done well with their goal to focus on principles.  The reading is simple and easy to understand without leaving out key components necessary to explain the features of the equipment as well as the way it functions.”

  • “The authors have done well with their goal to focus on principles.  The reading is simple and easy to understand without leaving out key components necessary to explain the features of the equipment as well as the way it functions.”

~ Rebecca A. Higdon, MS, RRT, Director of Clinical Education, Elizabethtown Community & Technical College

  • "I went through the preview chapters and I think this equipment text would be a great resource for students. This particular equipment text seems to be written well and easy to understand. It has a good balance of equipment theory and associated respiratory principles. In comparison, another text, although very thorough is often too detailed as a resource and doesn't seem to tie theories related to equipment in as neatly as this new text by Volsko.  Other texts have left me needing more information from different resources and only touched on certain pieces of equipment and didn't really go into theory at all. This text nicely ties theories to related equipment. This equipment text would also compliment the lab manual very well."
~ Greg Gonzales, BS, RRT-ACCS, NPS, RPFT, AE-C, Adjunct Faculty, Long Island University - Brooklyn
