Overview

Sports medicine continues to be a rapidly evolving field of study. The Sixth Edition of Concepts of Athletic Training focuses on the care and management of sport and activity related injuries while presenting key concepts in a comprehensive, logically sequential manner that will assist future professionals in making the correct decisions when confronted with an activity-related injury or illness in their scope of practice.

Chapters have a good mixture of text, tables, and illustrations to make learning easy and fun and the material is presented in a fashion that is succinct yet provides the student with plenty of direction to get more in depth information as needed.

A Transition Guide is available to help make the switch to this new edition even easier.

  • Time Out boxes highlight additional information related to the text, such as NATA Athletic Helmet Removal Guidelines, guidelines for working with an injured athlete, how to recognize the signs of a concussion, and first aid for epilepsy
  • Athletic Trainers Speak Out boxes feature a different athletic trainer in every chapter who discusses an element of athlete care and injury prevention

The text also includes:

  • Guidelines for CPR, AED, and management of bloodborne pathogens
  • Overview of the educational requirements to become a BOC certified athletic trainer.
  • Information on coaches as first responders
  • Numerous medical images to illustrate the injuries described in the text
  • New information relative to participation after knee injuries and updated information on prevention of ACL injuries (Ch 15),  sports hernias (Ch14), and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and breathing disorders (Ch13)

ShowReviews

  •  “The major strength of this text is that the information is straightforward, concise, and understandable. Other texts can be wordy which can become confusing to the students. This is a great text for beginning students especially, as it gives them the important information needed.”
