Mary-Margaret Coates, MS, IBCLC

Mary-Margaret Coates is the mother of three breastfed children, two of whom began life in intensive care nurseries.

She has held the following positions/roles:

  • La Leche League International group leader, 1977-1992
  • International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), 1985 (first year certification offered) to present
  • Wrote first chapter in all three editions of Breastfeeding and Human Lactation
  • Speaker at La Leche League of Colorado/Wyoming biennial conference in 1990 and 1992
  • Speaker at International Lactation Consultant Association annual meetings in 1989, 1991, 1996
  • Speaker at Australian International Lactation Consultant Association annual meeting, 1998

Jan Riordan, author, lecturer, researcher, and consultant on breastfeeding is a Professor of Nursing at Wichita State University. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing, a La Leche League Leader, and a practicing IBLCE certified lactation consultant. A member of La Leche League, International Health Advisory Council, Dr. Riordan has served on International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners and as a Chair of the Research Committee for the International Lactation Consultant Association.
