Overview

Pharmacology for Women’s Health discusses basic pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetic principles to help health care professionals understand how and when to prescribe effectively. In addition, it examines the pharmacology of specific drug categories used for a wide-variety of diseases and conditions as well as pharmacotherapeutic agents for specific conditions and diseases. Further, each chapter addresses drug therapy for the non-pregnant adult woman, the pregnant woman, the lactating woman, and the postmenopausal woman.

This is the first pharmacology text to collect all of this knowledge in one comprehensive resource!

  • Glossary of key terms for each chapter
  • Short case studies to help the reader identify clinical applications
  • Figures and discussion that briefly review pertinent pathophysiology in order to understand the appropriate pharmacology
  • Section on women’s health over the lifespan with chapters on gynecology, pregnancy, postpartum, lactation, and menopause
  • Discussion of ethical and rational prescribing
  • Material is evidence-based, including brief statistics to validate the psychometrics of important studies
  • Discussion of basic pharmacologic principles
  • Standardization of chapters aids in finding material quickly—for both students as well as providers in a busy practice
  • Text is organized by first by health topics and then disease conditions rather than the standard organization by drug category. This outline makes it easier for clinicians to identify all the drugs used for pharmacologic treatment
