Paul J. Hesketh, MD, is Chief of the Division of Hematology Oncology and Director of the Hematology Oncology Fellowship Program at Caritas St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center of Boston and is Professor of Medicine at Tufts University School of Medicine. Prior to assuming his current positions, Dr. Hesketh served as the Clinical Director of the Section of Medical Oncology at Boston University Medical Center from 1991-1994. Dr. Hesketh has a broad interest in investigational antineoplastic therapeutics, with a particular focus in defining effective new treatment approaches for lung cancer and the supportive management of the patient with cancer. Over the last 15 years, he has helped to design, implement and interpret some of the key clinical trials that have led to the approval of two new classes of antiemetic drugs that have revolutionized the management of nausea and vomiting in cancer patients receiving chemotherapy. He has also been a leader in the development of new treatment approaches for lung cancer. He currently serves as Vice Chair for Community Affiliates of the Lung Committee of the Southwest Oncology Group, a National Cancer Institute sponsored nationwide clinical trials group. He has also been a member of a number of advisory committees for the pharmaceutical industry, American Medical Association, professional societies and the State of Massachusetts. He has served as a reviewer and editorial board member for many scientific journals and as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Oncology: Index & Reviews. He is an author of more than 150 scientific manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters. Dr. Hesketh also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Biology at Boston College. He is Coordinator of the “Eagle Docs” program at Boston College and co-directs a recently developed undergraduate seminar course entitled “Introduction to Clinical Medical Science” in the Biology Department.
