Teaching pathophysiology for more than 6 years and nursing for more than 15 years, I noticed a lack of pathophysiology books that students could relate to, and high student frustration in learning the convoluted material. This book will provide the right fit with a practical guide to pathophysiology by providing information in a student-friendly, understandable way. This is a book where extraneous information is omitted, leaving only necessary information. The information in this book will be presented in an more accessible manner by considering readability, providing colorful graphics, and giving the content context and meaning.

  • I was so excited to see the manageable size of this book!  Even more, once I opened the book and started to look through it, I was ready to sit down and start reading it. You can tell Dr. Story wrote this book with her students in mind. Information that had been unclear in class was clarified while reading the text which made learning the information much easier and increased our ability to succeed in this difficult subject. Another featured I liked, were the numerous pictures and diagrams throughout the book. Many of my classmates, including myself, are visual learners and the diagrams helped clarify difficult concepts. I would definitely recommend this book to any school that wants a book for students to understand and learn from.

  • The best part about Pathophysiology: A Practical Approach is the way it is written. Ideas flow smoothly and transition well. Compared with other pathophysiology textbooks, it condenses the material into what students need to know and understand about this often difficult and confusing topic. Great resources beyond the text include illustrations, tables, prefixes and suffixes, and key terms and references specific to each chapter.

  • This book is long overdue and represents a new approach to one of the most difficult courses for students in the BSN curriculum. Dr. Story has abandoned the idea that physiology must be tedious and boring to be effectively taught. Dr. Story's empowerment pedagogy works in what many thought could not be done with physiology.   • The new patho book is great [with] the appropriate amount of information to get the concepts across without overwhelming the students. I checked out the student resource site and loved it - I liked the case studies, chapter objectives and student questions (which I think were well developed) and liked how the student can then email their scores to the instructor.
