Albert J. Heuer, PhD, MBA, RRT-Associate Professor, Program Director, Respiratory Care-North, UMDNJ-School of Health Related Professions

Albert J. Heuer, PhD, MBA, RRT is currently the Program Director and Associate Professor of the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s Respiratory Care Program in Newark, New Jersey.  He also holds a joint appointment in the School’s Department of Interdisciplinary Studies, where he teaches courses related to health care management and administration. After a career in finance and administration for a major insurance company, Dr. Heuer entered the field of respiratory care in 1993.   He has and continues to work in a variety of clinical settings, most notably in acute and home care. Dr. Heuer has been on faculty at UMDNJ since 1996, teaching in both respiratory care and health care administration.  He earned a BA degree from Montclair State University in 1980, an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University in 1986 and a PhD in Graduate Medical Education in 2002 from Seton Hall University.  Dr. Heuer  has been a notable contributor to other texts, authored numerous articles and book chapters, and has conducted an array of invited presentations relating to respiratory care, as well as health care administration and quality.

Louis M. Sinopoli-EdD, RRT, FAARC, AE-C, Professor and Director, Respiratory Care Program, El Camino College

Louis M. Sinopoli, EdD, RRT is currently the Program Director and Professor of Respiratory Care Program at El Camino Community College in Torrance, California. Dr. Sinopoli has also held faculty positions at USC School of Medicine, University of LaVerne graduate school of Health Management.  For 15 of his 30 years at El Camino College he has been the Director of Clinical Education for 15 years, a duel credentialed appointment as instructor in the Computer Information Systems department for 15 years and is currently been the program director for the last 15 years.  Before moving to California he grew up in Bayonne, New Jersey where he started his respiratory career at Mountainside Hospital in Montclair, NJ.  He then became Chief of Respiratory Care at St. Luke’s hospital in New York City.  He then moved to Syracuse, NY where he became the 1st director of clinical Education for the SUNY upstate medical Center 2+2 associate and bachelor’s degree program in Respiratory Care for 7 years before leaving to go to graduate school at UCLA where he would earn a masters and doctorate in educational evaluation and research with a specialty in criterion-referenced testing in 1981.  He  has served two terms as an NBRC board trustee, being the first therapist to chair the written exam committees, and has written and reviewed many NBRC questions over the years.  He received the Miller Award from the NBRC for his contributions to exam design and computerization of the exam system during his two appointments as a trustee. He is also the holder of the New York State Centrum Award and NYSS President’s award as the first president of the New York State Society for Respiratory Care as well as the Fellowship award and Jimmy Young Metal from the AARC for outstanding contributions to the respiratory care profession.  Dr. Sinopoli entered the field of respiratory care in 1966.  He continues to teach and contribute to the profession through his involvement with his students, the American Association for RC and the International Council for Respiratory Care.
