ShowReviews

  • I had been searching for a textbook that has a focus on food.  Too many sports nutrition texts focus on grams of macronutrients and totally ignore that food is how we achieve those “grams of fuel”.  Practical Applications is a great text for meeting my needs.  I especially enjoy the recipes and menus that give practical advice for athletes to increase their intakes of key nutrients and lower the intake of those nutrients linked to chronic disease.  I especially liked the format in the vitamin and mineral chapter that provides meal suggestions for sources of these nutrients and the inclusion of recipes.  I actually have made some of the recipes in the textbook for the classes I teach.

    -Wendy Stuhldreher, Slippery Rock University

The special focus for dietetics students and others interested in sports nutrition as a career is unique to this text compared to other sports nutrition texts on the market. It is refreshing to have available a sports nutrition text in which two of the authors are registered dietitians and one of them a sports dietitian. These authors provide a more clearly oriented sports nutrition focus to the text.

The blend of evidence-based research that forms the basis of nutrition guidelines and the examples of practical application in this text is informative and appealing to students and instructors.

    -Patti Steinmuller, Montana State University-Bozeman

The text is organized well and is composed of good, practical information.  It is easy to read and to apply the information given.

    -Rhonda Olson, University of Mary

In my opinion, this is the premier sports nutrition text.  The text is easy to comprehend and the information is practical.  The use of questions as headings for paragraphs is clever and intrigues the reader.  The breadth of topics is unsurpassed by any other sports nutrition text.

    -Antonio Santo, Lenoir-Rhyne College
