Overview

Pediatric Education for Prehospital Professionals (PEPP) represents a comprehensive source of prehospital medical information for the emergency care of infants and children.  PEPP is designed to give prehospital professionals the education, skills, and confidence they need to effectively treat pediatric patients. Developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics, PEPP specifically teaches prehospital professionals how to better assess and manage ill or injured children.

PEPP combines complete medical content with dynamic features and an interactive course to better prepare prehospital professionals for the field.

The one-day BLS course is geared towards First Responders and EMT-Basics, while the two-day ALS course is for EMT-Intermediate and Paramedic providers.

The Second Edition of PEPP has been completely updated and offers many enhancements including:

New Content:

  • Transportation Considerations discusses the considerations prehospital professionals must make when transporting a pediatric patient.
  • Pediatric Medication Formulary provides in-depth information on the recommended dose, maximum dose, use, precautions, and adverse reactions of pediatric medications.

New Features:

  • Procedures provide written step-by-step explanations and visual summaries of important ALS and BLS pediatric skills.
  • PAT Triangle represents the essence of the PEPP patient assessment method, which includes assessing appearance, work of breathing, and circulation to the skin.

  • "I recently completed running the PEPP course 6 times for our firefighter medics. The faculty was complimentary of the format of the lectures and the back up DVD for skills and visual reference, and as a coordinator and an instructor, I found the course to be easy to administer and teach. The course promotes great dialogue and valuable didactic exchange between instructor and all the students. The feedback I received from our firefighters was all positive. I look forward to running the program again and I wanted to write and let you know how pleased we were with the entire PEPP experience!"

"I just wanted to take a few moments to let you know how valuable the PEPP Course is to our Paramedics and EMT Basics. I attended one of the first PEPP instructor rollouts in Chicago. The scenarios and teaching topics covered are the situations that we need to review for BLS and ALS care of our pediatric patients. With the addition of the resuscitation modules and ability for online didactic, minimizing the costs for the departments and the ease of obtaining instructors and cards, it is a complete program. I cannot thank you enough for listening to the prehospital professional and their needs."
