From the preface:

This text is offered as a medical legal resource of the physician assistant profession. It is intended for use through all phases of the professional development of the physician assistant, from the high school student sorting through options in career choices, to physician assistant students, practicing physician assistants and supervisory physicians, or those who are considering practicing with a physician assistant.

The history and development of the profession is reviewed, allowing an understanding of the role the physician assistant plays in the health care team approach to patient care. The scope of practice is defined, along with the key collaboration between the physician assistant and the supervising physician. Michele Roth-Kauffman, JD, MPAS, PA-C-Gannon University

Michele Roth-Kauffman is a graduate of the St. Francis University, Loretto, PA, Physician Assistant Program and the Duquesne University Law School.  She is currently the Chair of the Physician Assistant Department at Gannon University where she has taught Physical Diagnosis Labs for the past nine years. Ms. Roth-Kauffman became interested in legal issues while working as a Physician Assistant in surgery.  She is a member of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and the Ohio Supreme Court. She is also a volunteer attorney with Northwest Legal Services and frequently lectures Physician Assistants on legal medical issues.
